How To Rock The Winter Floral Print

Traditionally, the floral embellishment is reserved for springtime, spring races and lighter weather. However, the trend for prevalent floral blooms in winter fashion has been making its comeback with the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Ungaro and Giambattista Valli all popping in florals on the runway with several others following suit.

We’ve compiled some sensible ways to wear your florals in the dark of winter without looking out of place.

Moody blooms match in the most decidedly unmatched way with gingham, plaid and tweed. Heavier weight and masculine edged fabrics work to toughen up your most frothiest pieces in your wardrobe.

Motif mash ups when done correctly are fresh and pleasing to the eye. Look for prints that clash in scale and type but with one core commonality such as base colour as seen above. The base colour, or highlight colour depending on how daring you feel will tie the competing designs together. If you want to play it safe, the darker the base colour the better. This is also the space where mixing textures can be experimented with safely. Jacquard on the bottom, digital print on top.

This isn’t to mean that you can’t wear white, or a lighter shade as your base. The lighter floral will be I’m sure a refreshing break from the ever classic black. Pairing a military inspired jacket or coat will work wonders in giving you a tougher edge, not to mention keeping you warm. Khaki and sage greens have made several appearances as a spot on trend hue to work into your wardrobe and quite surprisingly, compliment florals.
